Mobile email applications use the same IMAP and SMTP settings regardless of the device manufacturer.
Applies to: SiteWorx hosting mailboxes on phones and tablets
Add the account manually
- Open the device email account settings and choose to add another email account.
- Choose Other, IMAP or Manual setup. Do not choose Exchange or a social-mail provider for a normal hosting mailbox.
- Enter the display name, complete email address and mailbox password.
- For incoming mail, enter the assigned secure server hostname, port
993and SSL/TLS. - For outgoing mail, enter the same hostname, port
587, STARTTLS and require authentication. - Use the complete email address as the username for both servers.
- Save the account and allow the device to complete its connection test.
Recommended mobile settings
- Use IMAP so read, deleted and sent messages remain synchronised.
- Set a sensible synchronisation period if the mailbox is large.
- Require the device screen lock and enable remote device protection where available.
- Do not install an untrusted certificate profile to bypass a server-name warning.
Common problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The device says it cannot verify the server. | The wrong hostname or security mode is entered. | Use the assigned secure server hostname and the exact ports in the settings article. |
| Receiving works only on Wi-Fi or mobile data. | A local network, VPN or security application is blocking the connection. | Test on the other connection and confirm outbound access to ports 993 and 587. |
