Testing incoming and outgoing connections separately makes it easier to identify the incorrect setting.

Applies to: Hosting mailbox troubleshooting in any email application

Test incoming IMAP

  1. Confirm the complete email address and password work in Roundcube webmail.
  2. Set the incoming server to the assigned secure hostname.
  3. Use IMAP port 993 and SSL/TLS.
  4. Use the complete email address as the username.
  5. Refresh the inbox and note the exact error if it fails.

Test outgoing SMTP

  1. Set the outgoing server to the same assigned secure hostname.
  2. Use port 587 with STARTTLS.
  3. Enable authentication and use the complete email address and mailbox password.
  4. Send a message to an unrelated external mailbox and record the exact time.
  5. If port 587 cannot be used, test port 465 with SSL/TLS.
Note: Do not use port 25 for normal authenticated submission from an email application.
