Common problems

SymptomLikely causeWhat to do
Incoming mail works but sending fails.SMTP authentication, port or encryption is wrong.Use port 587 with STARTTLS, enable authentication and use the complete email address as the username.
A certificate warning appears. The application is using a hostname not covered by the server certificate.Replace it with the assigned secure server hostname; do not simply accept an unexpected certificate.
The application repeatedly asks for a password. The saved password is old, the username is incomplete or the account is temporarily locked.Update both incoming and outgoing saved credentials and avoid repeated automated attempts.
