These settings work with common FTP software that supports explicit FTP over TLS.
Applies to: Standard SiteWorx website file transfer
Important: FTPS and SFTP are different protocols. For standard SiteWorx FTP accounts, choose FTP with explicit TLS on port 21—not SFTP on port 22.
Enter these settings
| Protocol | FTP |
|---|---|
| Security / encryption | Explicit FTP over TLS, sometimes labelled Require explicit FTP over TLS or FTPES |
| Server / host | The assigned secure server hostname from the hosting welcome email or Customer Portal |
| Port | 21 |
| Logon type | Normal / password |
| Username | The exact FTP username shown under Hosting Features > FTP > Accounts |
| Password | The FTP account password |
| Transfer mode | Passive |
| Transfer type | Automatic; use binary for archives and other non-text files if the software asks |
Connect safely
- Open the connection or site-manager screen in the FTP software.
- Enter the settings above and save the profile without exposing the password to other device users.
- Connect and inspect the TLS certificate.
- Continue only when the certificate is valid for the assigned secure server hostname.
- Open the intended website directory and transfer a small test file.
- Confirm the file appears in SiteWorx File Manager, then remove the test.
Common problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Connection refused or timed out. | The protocol/port is wrong, a firewall blocks the connection or the source IP is temporarily restricted. | Confirm FTP, explicit TLS, port 21 and passive mode; test another network before contacting Support. |
| TLS certificate warning. | The domain name was used instead of the assigned secure server hostname. | Replace the host with the secure hostname; do not accept an unexpected certificate permanently. |
| Directory listing fails after login. | Active mode or a restrictive local firewall is blocking passive data connections. | Select passive mode and allow the FTP software through the local firewall. |
| Authentication fails. | The wrong FTP username/password is used or the account is suspended. | Copy the exact username from SiteWorx and reset only that FTP account password if needed. |
When to contact Tudor Internet
Open a ticket through the Customer Portal if the steps above do not resolve the issue or if the required option is not available for your service.
- The assigned server hostname and exact FTP username (not the password).
- The timestamp and complete error text.
- Whether login or only directory listing fails.
- Whether another network produces the same result.
Do not send passwords, private keys, full payment-card details, one-time authentication codes or unredacted identity documents in an ordinary support reply.
