Renewal notices are reminders, not confirmation that automatic renewal or payment has succeeded.
Domain transfers vary by registry. UK domains normally use a registrar-tag process, while many generic domains use an authorisation code and transfer lock. A transfer changes the registrar; it does not move website files or email by itself.
Before you start
- Confirm that you are authorised to manage the domain and that the registrant contact details are current.
- Record the current registrar, expiry date, transfer lock or UK registrar tag, nameservers and active services.
How to use this service
- Check the domain's expiry date and auto-renew setting in the Customer Portal.
- Confirm that account and registrant email addresses are current and monitored.
- Open any renewal invoice and verify its status; a generated invoice can remain Unpaid after an automatic payment fails.
- Renew early enough to resolve payment or registry issues before the expiry date, especially for business-critical domains.
- After payment, confirm the domain's new expiry date rather than relying only on a Paid invoice.
- Treat unexpected renewal links as potential phishing and sign in directly through the portal.
Confirm the result
- The registry expiry date has advanced and the next auto-renew setting matches the customer's intention.
Common problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| A notice arrives for a domain not visible in the account. | It may be held under another account, another registrar or a deceptive marketing message. | Check the registrar of record and contact support without using the message link. |
| The invoice is paid but the expiry date did not change. | The registry renewal failed or is still processing. | Open an urgent domain ticket with the invoice and domain. |
