Keep the legal registrant and contact data accurate without confusing a contact update with a transfer of ownership.
A domain is registered to a legal registrant, not simply to the person who can sign in to the billing account. Accurate contact details and clear authority to act are essential for renewal, transfer and dispute handling.
Before you start
- Confirm the domain extension and the person or organisation currently recorded as registrant.
- Have authority from the registrant to make the change.
Step-by-step
- Open the domain in the Customer Portal and review the current registrant, administrative and technical contact fields available for that extension.
- Correct address, telephone or email details using accurate current information. Keep a monitored email address because verification and transfer notices may be sent there.
- When the legal person or organisation itself is changing, stop and use the registry's ownership or registrant-transfer process rather than editing ordinary contact fields.
- Complete any registry verification message promptly. A domain can be suspended or restricted when mandatory data verification remains incomplete.
- After saving, re-open the domain and confirm the values. Public registration data may be redacted even though the registry still holds the full record.
Confirm the result
- The registrar and registry hold current contact data for the same legal registrant.
Common problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The registrant name cannot be edited. | The registry treats a legal-name change as a registrant transfer or requires manual review. | Open a domain ticket and explain whether this is a spelling correction, organisational rename or change of owner. |
| A verification message did not arrive. | The old email address is invalid, filtering rejected it or the registry has not generated the message yet. | Check all contact mailboxes and spam folders, then request assistance before the verification deadline. |
Important notes
- Changing the WHMCS billing account name does not automatically change the legal registrant of every domain.
When to contact Tudor Internet
Open a ticket through the Customer Portal when the checks above do not resolve the issue, when an action is unavailable for your service, or when continuing could risk data loss or service interruption. Include the following so the request can be investigated efficiently:
- The full domain name
- The current and intended registrar or nameservers
- Any registry or transfer error shown
- Whether website or email service is currently live
