Email Spam Filtering evaluates incoming mail before delivery and can quarantine or reject messages according to the active policy.
Applies to: The separate Email Spam Filtering service; not the basic filtering included with a hosting mailbox
Mail flow
- The domain MX records direct incoming mail to the filtering service.
- The service evaluates sender reputation, message content, authentication and policy signals.
- Accepted mail is delivered to the configured destination mail server.
- Suspected messages may be quarantined, tagged or rejected according to the service settings.
- Users or administrators review quarantine and allow/block rules in the service portal.
What the service does not replace
- A secure mailbox password and multi-factor authentication where available.
- Correct SPF, DKIM and DMARC configuration.
- User judgement about unexpected links, attachments and payment requests.
- Backups, retention or legal-compliance decisions for email content.
- Protection of compromised websites or devices that can send mail using valid credentials.
Check a missing message
- Confirm the sender address, recipient and exact time.
- Review quarantine and message trace.
- Check allow/block rules and the destination mail server.
- Use the trace result before changing public MX records or creating a broad allow rule.
